Stream Deck Layers

Layers

Layers allow you to add additional pages of actions to your profile. In this way the number of actions in a profile can vastly exceed the number of physical buttons your Stream Deck has.

Managing layers

When you start a new profile you begin with one layer called Home. You cannot delete the Home layer.

You can add and delete additional layers and clear all the buttons on a layer.

When you load a DCSFP profile the home layer will be active. Keep this in mind when designing your Stream Deck profile button layout.

Layers do not have a specific order or any intrinsic relation to each other but you can use the layer navigation button action to switch between layers. You can even switch layers on a remote stream deck at the same time.

Switching layers

In order to switch between any additional layers you have created you will need to assign the Layer Navigation action to one of the buttons on your profile.

As mentioned above, only one action type can be used per button so navigation buttons are dedicate to navigation only.

All that is required is to choose the layer you want to switch to when the button is pressed.

Tips:

  • Remember to assign buttons on your additional layers that allow a way to navigate home. If you switch to a layer with no navigation button you'll be stuck on that layer!
  • From a user experience point of view try to keep the navigation buttons in the same place on your layers. For example it helps when correcting an accidental layer switch when the button to go back is the button you just pressed accidentally.
