a thought on making it easier to grab any data set collection and gene list in the projection page via the pull down menus:

in the gene list manager and data set explorer it is easy to select only my own or all public gene lists / datasets to view - could we do the same in the pull down menus on the projection page? i.e. have a "public" option just as yo have "shared" options for those right now.

from what i can tell, right now, it is not possible to create a projection with a gene list or data collection that is not my own when sing the pull down menus - i create my own links from the link IDs to do this currently.

could we replace the "shared" elements of the pll down menu with the "public"? how are the "shared" elements currently populated in those pull downs?

"Shared" is used for when the user has shared a dataset collection or a gene list (or pattern) with you (via the dataset_shares table) or directly in the URL.

Thought there was already a ticket for this but I guess there wasn't. @JPReceveur and @DanLesperance have already asked about restoring the "public" part of the dropdown. It was originally taken out as part of the pulldown mockups by UMD-College Park UI graduate course team.
