Scope, define, and size work needed to extend the Dataverse harvesting client to support harvesting by identifier or 'locally defined set'

Overview

• Currently, the Dataverse OAI-PMH client harvests metadata from other OAI-PMH providers based on a set.
• However, some repositories do not provide an OAI-PMH provider and instead, expect others to use DataCite's OAI-PMH service. Each DataCite member is represented as a set in the service. However, users can construct arbitrary DataCite queries within a set to provide a subset of all their datasets.

Goal

• This issue is intended to track the work needed to scope, define, and size the technical tasks needed for the Dataverse OAI-PMH client to harvest one of these locally defined identifiers or sets from DataCite.
• Some of the work may involve creating instructions for data providers to use the DataCite OAI-PMH query function to define a subset of their repositories datasets to share.

Deliverables

• Set of instructions for repositories providing datasets
• Set of instructions for installations harvesting datasets (e.g., harvesting client configurations)
• List of well-defined, sized issues that correspond to the work needed to extend the Dataverse harvesting functionality
