IAS should provide a complete example for newcomers.
An example would help understanding how to generate and display alarms starting from scratch.

The example shall show how

to create and configure the CDB to generate one alarm running a single Converter, a single ComputingElement, a single Dasu and a single Supervisor (i.e. the simplest scenario)
check the correctness of the CDB
run the IAS Converter
run the IAS Supervisor that generates the alarm of the example
get (or display) the alarms
