Currently share installs are forced. The reason is that autoconf is implemented in Perl, and if the Perl used by autoconf is different from the Perl used by Alien::autoconf and you are relying on PERL5LIB then things will likely break. There are also issues related to ACLOCAL_PATH which would need to be resolved. There are likely enhancements that would need to be made to Alien-Build as well. None of this is likely to be trivial.
