Is registering error-codes still possible? I'd like to register M*** for the following tool

Also, many of the links seem to be broken on RTD, I presume the reason is you're in the process of migrating to GitLab.

No there is no registry (I'd be happy to merge a PR updating that information though). I would suggest using a different prefix though (e.g., MA). Since there is no guarantee someone else won't attempt to use the same space (and hasn't already done so).

But using a prefix with two letters seems to be invalidating your own documentation. Now maybe this only applies to your own codes, in which case it might be helpful to make it clear there so that other code knows it can't rely on it. I have one bug about it because my plugin uses two letters as you suggested.

Also the issues I noted in #88, show that while plugins might not require to use one letter and three digits, they still need to use at exactly 4 characters.
