Unable to get nest_path working with DIH

Should nest_path work with DIH? If I generate the fields as columns in the 'select' statements is that enough to get nest_path working with DIH?

I opened this issue a while back but it got no movement since the package was moving to community driven:

It's possible i've just got a something misconfigured but I haven't been able to find any resources regarding DIH and the nest_path field.

I have same issue. I think we have to wrap child document in to field element.

I was able to get it working by manually setting nest_path properties in the child doc queries (using DIH with mariadb).
