Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe:

  • Creating a new drink, even with presets (identified with Use a preset of drinks or values upon adding a drink #22), is not fun, as the beverage may not be served with degree information, when served in a glass. It would be funnier to look for the beverage in a catalog, potentially see pictures, etc.
  • (Also, using a catalog would enable a related feature, that is totally beyond the app intent but that is tightly coupled in the motivation to identify the drunk beverages: build an history of beverages and an appreciation!)

Describe the solution you'd like:

  • Provide the user with some search field in a catalog.

Describe alternatives you've considered:

  • User can read the menu or bottle informations, but that's less fun, and the beverage is not identified by its name.

Additional contex:t

  • Online catalogs already exist online, in particular a website with a nice name: catalog.beer, that provides a dedicated API.
  • There does not seem to be something as modern existing for wine. That may be made tricky by the fact that wine description varies greatly with years passing.
  • Some offline capability is needed. Maybe only by caching the last used beverages?
  • Contribution towards online catalog would be a nice addition.

For such a catalog to be used, it should cover a wide panel of drinks, from beer to wines to strong liquors :

  • either such an API exists (which one ?) and could be used quite quickly
  • or we could build our proper API / catalog, feed with all users' inputs. That is a whole different challenge and subject !

IMHO : subject on hold
