xmega8e5 appears to be 'too different' from the other xmegas and so there is no patch for it, even though it has support from ATMel Studio. It would require research to make sure that the same kinds of compiler/tool mods for the 16e5 and 32e5 could also be done for the 8e5. However, the gcc code (and other things) indicate that the CPU type 'atxmega2' is for a device with 16k to 64k of NVRAM, and there are no other supported xmega processors with < 16k. what overall affect this has I am not sure, which means research is required.
