I really enjoyed making this bag, thank you for publishing! I'm really happy with the materials I picked, all from Rockywoods (except the pellon)

  • Inner structure: Pellon 1/8inch sew-in foam for the body
  • Pink body: Cordura 1000D for the outer basket bag
  • Liner and collar: Challenge Recycled Bag Cloth (RBC) - Coated 400D Fabric w/ Eco Friendly C0 DWR
  • Nexus GTSR Buckles
  • 1 Inch Grosgrain Ribbon, Mil-Spec Style 5038

Modifications

The main thing I wanted to clean up was the look of the enclosure. I didn't love how the fabric spiraled around the webbing near the buckle and ran over the side of the basket. I don't expect to overload this thing, so I sacrificed just a bit of the top end capacity to have it fold like a paper bag at the top.

  • I left the right and left side un-stitched
  • On the left and right, where there's 9 inches of collar at the top, I only gave 7.5 of webbing so that the bag would close properly when almost empty.
  • In order to encourage the bag to do the paper-bag fold, I sewed some pinch seams on all 4 edges. I looked at a lot of basket bags and saw this on the wizard works alekazam.

Nice improvements! Glad the pattern was useful!

If you have any interest in updating the instructions with your improvements, would be happy to merge them.

@subdavis thanks for sharing your modifications.

When you said:

  • On the left and right, where there's 9 inches of collar at the top, I only gave 7.5 of webbing so that the bag would close properly when almost empty.

Do you mean to say that instead of the 14" (14 3/8" counting seam allowance) which was in the original pattern you made your collar only 9" high?

Thanks!

@dmenchaca I think @subdavis is talking about the 9" side rather than the height.

@abroekhof yup I see what you mean, thanks!
