Donation Handling And Packaging

Rules For Volunteers

1. Before leaving home, check your temperature with a thermometer. If you have a fever or any other symptoms, DO NOT PARTICIPATE.
2. IF ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD IS SICK, DO NOT PARTICIPATE.
3. If anyone in your household becomes sick, notify coordinators IMMEDIATELY.
4. Maintain 10 feet distance from each other at all times.
5. Wear masks and fresh gloves at all times when in the same room as the donations/PPE.
6. Wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds upon arriving. Follow CDC guidelines on handwashing.
7. Regularly re-wash hands. Again, follow CDC guidelines on handwashing (can not be stressed enough).

Collection and Processing Procedure

Processing Site Setup

• The site is thoroughly cleaned before each batch.
• After the site is cleaned, all gloves that were worn are discarded and everyone washes their hands again.
• The processing site consists of a "clean" and "dirty" area.
• The dirty area is where materials are placed prior to and during intake.
• The clean area is for all steps after the intake wash and rise.
• Anyone who has been in the dirty area MUST NOT enter the clean area until they have discarded their gloves, washed their hands and put on a clean pair of gloves.

Processing Steps

1. A new batch number is created.
2. Donations from the drop-off box are verified against donation receipts from Google Form.
3. Unknown donations or donations that do not follow our criteria are DISCARDED.
4. Separate plastic, ties and prints into groups on a table with a batch number sign/placard. Be sure not to mix with other batches.
5. Record verified donations in Google Sheet for the batch number.
6. Materials are then moved to sanitization, and recorded in Google Sheet.
7. Sanitization is done in the following wet process steps:
8. Intake wash with soap and water.
9. Intake rinse with clean water.
10. 20 minute soak in Steramine (or similar) solution.
11. Rise with clean water.
12. Air dry.
13. Additional sterilization is done with UVC light. Parts sterilized with UVC are not mixed with non-UVC sterilized parts, packages will indicate if the parts went through the UVC process.
14. Once all items are clean, the ties are tied onto the headbands.
15. 24 headbands (with ties) and at least 24 clear plastic visors are placed into a box and sealed.
16. Sealed packages are marked with the date, batch number, type of cleaning/sterilization performed and a description of contents.
17. Sealed packages are placed in the designated storage area to await transport.
18. Total number of packages and their contents are recorded in Google Sheet.
