merge into devpi-server tests?

wouldn't it make sense to integrate the acceptance tests to the devpi/server directory and add a tox-environment that runs them? It could then become part of the regular test suite and would be run before releases automatically.

This sounds like a good idea. We will have to do some refactoring, though. Currently the tests are based on devpi-plumber, which would introduce a circular dependency. In addition, the tests for the LDAP feature would have to remain separate.
