<h1>Acidificação dos Oceanos e Corais</h1>
<p>A acidificação do oceano é definida como uma
diminuição do pH do oceano ao longo de décadas que é causada principalmente pela absorção de dióxido de carbono (CO2) da atmosfera.</p>
<p>A concentração de CO2 atmosférico aumentou drasticamente desde a Revolução Industrial,
de cerca de 280 partes por milhão (ppm) na época pré-industrial para 419.05 ppm em abril de 2021.</p>
<p>Este aumento de carbono atmosférico é absorvido pelo oceano e leva a mudanças na química dos carbonatos do oceano, comumente chamadas de acidificação do oceano.</p>
<p>Quando os íons de hidrogênio são liberados na água do mar, eles se combinam com os íons de carbonato para formar o bicarbonato. Este processo reduz a concentração de íons carbonato. A redução dos íons carbonato disponíveis é um problema para calcificadores marinhos, como corais, crustáceos e moluscos, que precisam dos íons carbonato para construir suas conchas e esqueletos.</p>
