Hi,

My daughter received a tiptoi today, we weren't really worried that the box was in German (we're Swiss but french speaking, quite a lot of stuff here is multi-lingual) and we already had quite a lot of tiptoi books and games.

I've seen many tips and hacks to change the pen's language but it seems it doesn't apply to ours (i.e. expected firmware files are Update5E.upd Update5E_FR.upd and so on... and it seems these firmwares aren't present anywhere on the internet). I also tried the language id swap in LanguageInfo5E.txt without any effect. Did someone here had any success in hacking the pen to install a french (or other language) firmware ?

It seems that an other way would be to modify the french book's file to let them think they are german books and then have the pen reading them in french but it would require to edit each book/game and do the trick for every new book.

correct me if i'm wrong :

  • some german and french books with the same titles use different oids for the same content.
  • the official tiptoi manager lets you choose the language and associated catalog to put on the device.

so, you would have to remap each french audio file to each german oid.

i can imagine three ways to do this :

  1. waste a few hours of listening on your own
  2. use a voice recognition tool to print out and pair the text and translations for each audio file
  3. set up a collaborative database of every sound/OID code pair (and start by feeding it the tttool\templates folder)
