Since 2017-04, the top of wiki page for PyPI's XML-RPC says: The XMLRPC interface for PyPI is considered legacy and should not be used.

We use it in PythonPopularAnalyses

Alternatives are Simple API and JSON API

Parts of tagger's PyPI collector could be reused here. https://github.com/fabric8-analytics/fabric8-analytics-tagger/blob/master/f8a_tagger/collectors/pypi.py
