I'd strongly suggest avoiding tying the schema to specific providers (including RINGOLD, ORCiD, etc.). Supporting those fields (even recommending them) is fine, but we don't gain anything by tying ourselves to them and we risk being unable to support new, independent, or otherwise non-conformist sources.
In terms of uniquely identifying an institution (for example) across records, any identifier should do it, and records with different kinds of identifiers may be linked via a record with multiple identifiers. E.g. an organisation with ROR id only can be identified by RINGOLD during metadata sweeps if there are any records for that organisation with both RINGOLD and ROR ids.
can we have institutions with both RINGOLD and ROR ids ?
