The current corridor definition is one of many possible ways of defining a corridor. This was raised in the thinktank why I chose this particular version; for which I didn't have a good answer except that this was the easiest way I thought to implement it.

So, we should consider different definitions of a corridor and also whether it is possible to parameterise the corridor in some way.
