Realeasing mupen64plus-next as a standalone emulator

As you maybe have seen already, the old mupen64plus project has been somewhat abbandoned, while all the attention to the project aimed to the libretro version of it. But not all the users are fine using all-managing giant APIs such as retroarch, and as such I would like to ask: is there any way mupen64plus-next could be released, being it as an update to the old emulator or as a different package altogether, in the near future? Thanks for the attention
