Would it be possible for you to make this into an add-on?

I'm not entirely sure about that:

  1. On one hand, it would make the code more discoverable in AnkiWeb
  2. On the other hand it's just the "engine", and the user might want to customize/style how the card looks

Making this an add-on would make it easy for non-technical people to use. Non-technical people don't use GitHub and most of the Anki userbase is either language learners or medicine students.

For example what roadblocks I encountered when trying to make this template work for myself:

  1. Had to Google how to use custom template in Anki.
  2. In my first attempt I cloned Basic card instead of Cloze and template didn't work.
  3. In the cloned card base the name of the fields were different than the template so I had to add 1 field and rename other ("back extra"). I only knew what to do is by seeing the GIF in this GitHub page how the fields are structured.

I know it is common sense to use cloze card and not basic card, but I was not the only person who made that mistake. In the Anki reddit thread you posted this template someone else also had this issue.

My point of this comment is not to complain, but just to show a perspective how a non-technical user might not be able to use this.

Thank you for making this great template.
