Trying to build and run locally

Several issues when building as described in the README:

1.) in master:
npm install -> ok
bower install -> bower.json not found. i download from develop branch, then ok

cd lib/jsorolla
npm install -> ok
bower install -> bower.json not found. downloaded from submodule in genome_maps dev branch, then ok.

cd ../..
npm run build -> missing script: build
???

2.) in develop branch.
everything goes ok. i then follow "cp build content to [...] apache". restart apache, navigate to localhost. browser window title changes to "Genome Maps" but otherwise I see only a blank page.

What am I doing wrong? Please advise.
