There appears to be no way to merge a node with an area. The need to do this often arises when a building has been drawn and subsequently a node has been placed with its usage and other information tags. In accordance with
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element the tags should be placed on the building area.

In iD it is possible to select the area and the node, and then do a "Merge" operation which merges the node's tags with the area and removes the now superfluous node, but there does not appear to be an obvious way to do this in Merkaartor. Selecting the area and Shift-selecting the node shows the two elements as selected, but there is no "Merge" or similar operation available anywhere in the menus.

The only way to do the desired operation seems to be to select the node, "Copy", select the area, "Paste Tags", reselect the node, "Delete".

Is that a feature specifically for this conversion (node to building area)? Or is it useful in regular day to day mapping as well? So far, I've been pretty happy with copy & paste tags and I'd rather appreciate more fine-grained control of what is being copied and pasted.
