What is the meaning of the master branch in this repo? #9

Is master meant to be stable? It's the current default, so people have been running into troubles with some of the API changes between 2.6 and 2.7 (like in orocos/rtt_ros_integration/issues/32).

I suggest to remove the master branch because it is not updated regularly.
The toolchain-2.x branches usually track the latest released versions of the source repos.
