[BUG] File size becomes 0 after a local update #4495
Comments
@Rulim , "changing file" means opening and editing with a 3rd party app in the device? or editing in another ownCloud client like the web client? On the other hand, it would be helpful to have a descriptive title in the issues. Thanks |
open for editing in tables google sheets |
I can confirm too. File will be shrinked to zero due upload of update. |
Reproduced. I was able to do it with a simple txt file and a free editor like "Quick Edit". My steps:
txt file is shown with Server returns correct values (not an integration problem) and database seems to have correct values as well. Will fix within the next release |
I confirm the same issue with version 4.4.0. However, I do not think it is merely a problem of the File list in the Android app. In my case, the 0B file gets propagated by the upload to the server and becomes unreadable on other devices accessing it. In my case, this happens consistently with PDF files. |
In my case, the zero file was also uploaded to the server and became inaccessible from all devices. In my case, I was able to recover data from /data/user/files-version |
Did you check with any other kind of files? every file i modify, i can open it with other clients. What app are you using to edit PDFs? |
Which app do you use to open files? |
I use Xodo to open PDF files and annotate them. In my understanding, it tries to overwrite the opened file automatically. I have not tried with other file types but I can give it a try. |
I have a .xlsx file to which I add data. On the desktop I use excel. On the android device it is usually OfficeSuite and sometimes Google sheets. No matter what application I use on android the result is the same file size becomes equal to 0 both on the device and on the server. |
Just tried Xodo to edit a pdf file with some strokes and annotations. I reproduce the 0B problem in Android app, but the file is opened and displayed in the iOS app and in web. I'm using an oCIS server, are you using that as well or oC10? |
is the modified file opened in your desktop apps? |
the file is open only in one place, either desktop or android app. There are no problems with desktop. |
file is closed in desktop, open only in android app |
the file is modified with the Android app. The modified file is openable with the desktop client? as @sistek, it'd not be opened |
after editing in the android app and saving on the server, the file opens normally in excel on the desktop. I alternately open the file in excel on the desktop and officeSuite on android, there are no problems there. only 4.3.1 |
@jesmrec not sure what you mean by oCIS and oC10? My desktop app is ownCloud for Linux 2.11.0. But I cannot open it even from the web interface. It says the file is corrupted. It says: Invalid or corrupted PDF file. With the detail: "PDF.js v2.10.0 (build: c7a10e4) |
@sistek oCIS (ownCloud Infinite Scale) is the latest development for oC servers with lots of exciting new features and improvements, and oC10 is the legacy one. It's easy to recognize it: does your server have the "Spaces" feature? You would see it in the web interface so quickly 😄 |
@JuancaG05 I cannot see a "Spaces" feature in my web interface :-) Which means my provider is on oC10? Unfortunately, the version of the server is out of my control. |
Sorry, I misled you. I am communicating through a translator, and at first I misunderstood the question. |
So, that means the file is not openable after the update... will need some research. |
I'm not able to reproduce with oC 10.15.0 and app version 4.4.0. Updated files are opened correctly with other clients. Let's do the technical research and then explore whether the problem is still there |
I am currently using 4.3.1 but am willing to install 4.4 and test it out. What reports do you need from me? |
