Right now the README just has:

A fork of the node.js chat app by @orkj using socket.io, rethinkdb, passport and bcrypt on an express app.

How's this fork different? Is it just more maintained? Or is there some other goal?

Good question. I'm actually not sure what the reason behind the fork was. @deontologician @coffeemug do you know more about this?
