Bug? Setup Assistant keeps showing with every start. I don't want the search icon, I have the toolbar!

For some reason, when trying to create a new issue, there are no options to actually do so, only to come and make a discussion here, even though it is an issue. Weird.

Anywho, this is a fresh installation on Windows 10. The same happened in recent versions on my Windows 11 install that I've just came from.

I install the software, go through the setup asssistant, put a toolbar on my taskbar, then I hide the search icon that the setup assistant had put there for me, as obviously I don't need it alongside the toolbar

Every time I start Windows, the setup assistant returns and wants to start from the first step again. I always have to exit out of it on every start. I'm guessing it checks if I have the icon but it doesn't understand I've already done or, or that I already have the toolbar and I don't need another button

This has only happened in a recent update to this software

Please allow me to turn this off :)

Simply delete the enty for the Assistant under Windows start up options

I will remove EverythingToolbar from autostart for the next release. Until then you can disable it like this:

1. Open task manager via context menu of start menu button
2. Navigate to "Startup apps" tab in the sidebar
3. Locate "EverythingToolbar.Launcher"
4. Right click and disable

In my case, I use Everything Toolbar by activating it through the hotkey, which means that the application must be launched at startup. But the setup assistant that appears every time is very annoying...

Thanks for mentioning that. I didn't notice I broke the issue templates a while ago. It is fixed now!

Anywho, this is a fresh installation on Windows 10.

The behavior you described should only show on Windows 11. The installer of EverythingToolbar checks for the Windows build number and only registers the launcher autostart if the build number is at least 22000. Could you please copy and paste the build number of your Windows 10 machine again (Start button > Settings > System > About > Copy Window specifications)?

I just checked the autostart behavior in Windows 10 again with 1.0.3 and I don't have that problem there. If your build number is below 22000 I suspect it must have registered to start automatically by some other means.

In any case, @Horst12's answer should fix the autostart problem for you.

Thank you for your reply. I am in the process of redesigning the setup assistant anyway, so I will probably add a checkbox to prevent the assistant from starting.

Nice! Do you think me running Enterprise is the cause of the software registering autostart?

No, I don't see any reason why Windows Enterprise should have an effect on the autostart behavior. Possibly you have at some point launched EverythingToolbar.Launcher.exe by accident and that way enabled the autostart.

One question just came to my mind though: Is there a start menu entry for EverythingToolbar on your Windows 10 machine?

No I do not, but I do recall when I installed it, nothing seemed to happen so it looked like the install may have failed, so I opened the program folder as I didn't see a start entry and opened up probably that exact file you mentioned. That is indeed likely what enabled it.

Okay, that's probably what happened then. You not having a start menu entry indicates that the installer has worked correctly and couldn't have set it to start automatically. Thank you!
