Thorns not working

I was playing online using rounds with friends and both friends had very powerful attacks. I had thorns but after being hit they didn't take any damage at all, despite having way more health than them and dying in one or two hits they were at full health.

If it matters they were both using poison but the initial damage of the bullets killed me not the poison damage over time.
