vsn 5.2.3 - 5.2.6-prerelease

Even though my server url field is empty, TH still saves. I would expect that if the field was empty the download saver would be activated.

This is expected behavior actually. There are a few ways to make a "Download" button, distinct from the save button, that works the way you're expecting. See here for examples.

Actually if you switch to "legacy upload save" then I think you would get the behavior you're expecting. See these docs.

That's only a possibility if we're talking about your own TW. If it was someone elses, and they hadn't put it in the catalog, you would have no way to save (with the built-in tools).

The most ideal solution would be if TW let you pick which save mechanism you wanted. Thanks!

Okay, thanks for explaining the use case. Actually there have been a few different queries about how to do this kind of thing, see #302 and #122.

There is a trick you can use, but it's not very user-friendly, see here.

There's also the bookmarklet created by TW_Tones. It's a little confusing to install, but if you can follow the instructions it gives you a handy way to download any TiddlyWiki you want.
