Below are the release notes for past releases of GPSTest, including links to download past versions.

Note that if you install the app from one of the below download links, you must first uninstall the Google Play version and also allow the installation of apps from "Unknown Sources" (i.e., not Google Play). This can typically be enabled via "Settings->Applications->Unknown Sources" or "Settings->Security->Unknown Sources".

  • v2.1.0 (Android 2.2 and higher) - Added GLONASS and NAVSTAR satellite labels in Status and Sky windows, improved Sky view (including PRN labels and north indicator), map now turns with compass and uses device sensors to control a “magic camera” first-person map view (Android 2.3 and up), more accurate compass sensors are now supported, view all three windows (Status, Map, Sky) at once on large screen tablets.

  • v2.0.2 (Android 2.2 and higher) - New Action Bar controls to start/stop GPS and share location. GPS now starts automatically by default. Additional settings to control GPS update frequency and GPS auto-start.

  • v2.0.1 (Android 2.2 and higher) - The screen is now kept on by default (changeable in Settings), and you can now swipe tabs on the Status tab when satellites are shown.

  • v2.0.0 (Android 2.2 and higher) - New look, same great app! Also fixes several bugs, including GPS being left on after exiting app. Requires Google Play Services for the new Google Maps v2.0.

  • v1.0.8 (Android 1.6 and higher) - Fixes issue with correctly calculating the Time-To-First-Fix (TTFF) value (Note: on Android 4.1 and below, your system clock must be accurate to calculate an accurate TTFF value).

  • v1.0.7 - Fixes issue with drawing sky view of satellites off-screen on Android 4.0 and higher
