Here I listed common problems you may facing and help you troubleshooting. If not help at all, please post an issue. If you not watch any videos below, please watch them first.

NOTE: If are using cracked version MSFS, it is not supported! Don't raise any issue here. Only genuine version is supported.

App is working but google map not show

Please watch the videos here and make sure MSFS2020 setup properly. You must disable the rolling cache and clear it.

Stuck at 50%

Please try to start the mod before starting msfs2020. If it stuck at 50%, please have a look if any pop up window showing certificate issue, and allow it.

For anyone stuck on 50% on the loading screen. The best way to fix that in my opinion, is to use alt enter right after starting up MSFS. (with this mod running, of course). This will make the windowed mode come on, and let you see if/when that certificate pops up in the background. That's what's getting in the way of the loading to finish. Click accept button, an then you can open the sim up to full screen. This should stop that loading freeze on half when it occurs. I just figured this out last night. Let's see if it happens in the future, so far, it's working. I only loaded up twice. I think most people having the problem are not seeing behind MSFS screens. That was my problem!

Connection lost, bandwidth is too slow

If you click "Stop" button, then it will stop and restore the system. So next time you goto MSFS2020 without running this mod should be Bing map. If you have issue with "Connection lost, bandwidth is too slow" it means the "hosts" file in side "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" still have the following lines:

  • 127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net
  • 127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net

Please try to delete them and restart MSFS2020 or computer, it should return to normal.

Restore to Bing map

If you click "Stop" button, then it will stop and restore the system. DO NOT close the command line window (blank window) directly. If you still have issue, try delete the host file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Host related issue

This may cause by:

Host not found

Damaged hosts file by other program

Similar issue is https://github.com/derekhe/msfs2020-google-map/issues/54 Please delete the hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Antivirus

Please disable antivirus or add exception rule for the file. Some references:

Read only permission

Set the hosts file as not read only

Slow loading time

You can try start MSFS2020 into main menu and then start this mod. If you still have this issue, please switch another Google server.

443 port is occupied

Related issue:

  • OSError: [WinError 10013] An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions

I want to return to default bing map

App should restore to bing map when it close, if not, please delete The following two lines in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file:

  • 127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net
  • 127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net

Virus report and https certificate error

Some virus app reports errors and when in game it promote for https certificate error. If so, please add the folder to whitelist and accept the certificate error. The software is totally open source and you can check every piece of code here: https://github.com/derekhe/msfs2020-google-map

"nginx not found" error

Don't care about this error. It just try to kill "nginx", if no nginx is found it reports that error. I can't prevent this as it is from system.

Can and can't

Can:

  • Replace bing sattelite image with google's image
  • Somewhere bing sattelite image not cover (which display as autogenerated image) can be replaced with google's image
  • Google's image has better quality and more recent than bing's
  • Remove microsoft's color correction, which bring the nature color back

Can't

  • Autogenerated building, trees, roads stay same as before
  • Photogrammetry from google not included, will keep use Bing's
