OpenShift.io Developer Documentation Project

Travis

OpenShift.io Developer Document web-site: http://devdoc.almighty.io

Please create "Pull Request" (PR) to contribute to developer documentation.

1. Overview

This project has two aspect. First, it holds "Developer Documentation". Second, this developer documentation "Published to Web-site". For first, changes to developer documentation is continuous process while for second, changes happens in-frequently.

This document provides details for both kind of users. One who "contributes to developer documentation" and other who "maintain this project to publish its contents to web-site".

Note, all .adoc documents files will be converted to .html file when published to web-site.

2. Contributing to Developer Documentation

All devdocs must be added under docs directory or sub-directory under it.

docs directory layout:

.
└── docs
    ├── blueprints
    │   ├── resources
    │   │   └── tenant_arch.jpg
    │   └── tenant.adoc
    ├── designs
    │   ├── auth_arch.adoc
    │   ├── resources
    │   │   ├── auth_login_seq_flow.plantuml
    │   │   └── wit_system.jpg
    │   └── wit_design.adoc
    ├── index.adoc
    └── multi-env
        ├── multi_env.adoc
        └── resources
            └── flow1.plantuml
            └── flow2.plantuml
            └── flow3.plantuml
            └── flow4.plantuml

index.adoc - This contains toc/index for all documents. One link for each .adoc file should appear here.

blueprints, designs - Separate directory for each category. All blueprints content should go under /docs/blueprints like-wise for designs. New directory like ui-mockups or something can be added. In index.adoc should have heading for each category and one link for each adoc.

multi-env - Topic specific directory can be added when given topic going to have lots of contents and related resources. In index.adoc this topic can still go under designs/blueprints or something depending on what suits.

index.adoc for above docs layout:

Blueprints
    1. Tenant

Designs
    1. Auth
    2. WIT
    3. Multi Environment

Note, here "Multi Environment" is under "Designs" category.

3. Test your changes locally

  1. Make changes under docs directory.

  2. Run ./generate.sh (or mostly with sudo → sudo ./generate.sh) to generate html web-site.

  3. There will be output directory created under that whole html web-site will be placed.

Note, hyperlink in `index.adoc` with `.adoc` file extension will be converted to `.html` file extension in `index.html`.

4. Project structure

.travis.yml

This project uses travis for builds link. Travis build is triggered only when PR/commit are merged to master branch.

generate.sh

The docs folder with .adoc files converted to html site with .html file under output directory with generate.sh script. Both docs and output will have same folders and same files except .adoc files converted to .html file. Also, hyperlinks in index.html will have links to .html files.
