Triffids

Triffids is a Progressive Web Application, with associated phone apps.

Mission statement

Triffids will be based around the Bristol Open Data platform and make use of the 'Trees', 'Parks and Green Spaces' and 'Common Land and Village Green' datasets. There are other datasets that could be integrated, for example, 'Open Benches' and 'Trees of Bristol'. The intent is to facilitate citizens access to these spaces and provide further information about the space. Each green space (and tree) will provide a link to the Bristol Council website to allow reporting of problems with the Park or Tree.

Citizen engagement is key to the success and growth of the application, for example, they will be able to upload photographs of the tree, or the view from the tree, for other users to view. We can create a collection of trees and bushes that they like, or a points system for the number of famous or rare trees that they visit.

We intend to create a game feeling to the application, allowing users to discover trees and points of interest in the Park or Green Space being visited. The various parks will be connected into walks which will include trees that are not in a specific park but would still be of interest to walkers. Phone location information can be used to show items of interest nearby. This aspect will be similar to the very popular 'Wallace and Gromit' app.

The preliminary version (MVP) will be focused on providing a list of parks. On selecting a park, the user will be presented with a map of the park and the location of trees and other items of interest. On selecting a tree, they will then view information about that tree. They can report problems via the BCC website.
