Potential teleconference times

David Baron edited this page Jan 27, 2016 · 1 revision

Here's a quick summary of options for a TAG teleconference time. These options are all shiftable by a few hours, but they give a picture of roughly what the various options would look like.

I describe them in terms of the times they would be in January, but then describe how they would shift at other times of year.

First, I'll start with three options that are "doable" for everyone or almost everyone, at the cost of being pretty awful for a big chunk of people.

Option #1:

  • Melbourne: Wed 18:00:00 AEDT (would shift -2hr by July)
  • Tokyo: Wed 16:00:00 JST (would shift -1hr by July)
  • Paris: Wed 08:00:00 CET
  • London: Wed 07:00:00 GMT
  • Boston: Wed 02:00:00 EST
  • San Francisco:Tue 23:00:00 PST (this option would get even worse for somebody for the few weeks in March / Oct/Nov between the US and EU summer time changes, but could be either an hour earlier for Europe or an hour later for North America)

Option #2:

  • Melbourne: Thu 01:00:00 AEDT (would shift -2hr by July)
  • Tokyo: Wed 23:00:00 JST (would shift -1hr by July)
  • Paris: Wed 15:00:00 CET
  • London: Wed 14:00:00 GMT
  • Boston: Wed 09:00:00 EST (+1 hour when US on DST but EU not)
  • San Francisco:Wed 06:00:00 PST (+1 hour when US on DST but EU not)

Option #3:

  • Melbourne: Thu 09:00:00 AEDT (would shift -2hr by July -- or shift others)
  • Tokyo: Thu 07:00:00 JST (would shift -1hr by July -- or shift others)
  • Paris: Wed 23:00:00 CET (-1 hour when US on DST but EU not)
  • London: Wed 22:00:00 GMT (-1 hour when US on DST but EU not)
  • Boston: Wed 17:00:00 EST
  • San Francisco:Wed 14:00:00 PST

Then there are three other options that admit that we're not going to have a time that works for everybody, and instead tries to make the time decent for two continents at the cost of being in the middle of the night for a third:

Option #4 (no North Americans):

  • Melbourne: Wed 21:00:00 AEDT (would shift -2hr by July)
  • Tokyo: Wed 19:00:00 JST (would shift -1hr by July)
  • Paris: Wed 11:00:00 CET
  • London: Wed 10:00:00 GMT
  • Boston: Wed 05:00:00 EST (+1 hour when US on DST but EU not)
  • San Francisco:Wed 02:00:00 PST (+1 hour when US on DST but EU not)

Option #5 (no Asians/Australians):

  • Melbourne: Thu 05:00:00 AEDT (would shift -2hr by July)
  • Tokyo: Thu 03:00:00 JST (would shift -1hr by July)
  • Paris: Wed 19:00:00 CET (-1 hour when US on DST but EU not)
  • London: Wed 18:00:00 GMT (-1 hour when US on DST but EU not)
  • Boston: Wed 13:00:00 EST
  • San Francisco:Wed 10:00:00 PST

Options #6 (no Europeans, probably):

  • Melbourne: Thu 11:00:00 AEDT (would shift -1hr by July)
  • Tokyo: Thu 09:00:00 JST
  • Paris: Thu 01:00:00 CET (would shift +1hr by July)
  • London: Thu 00:00:00 GMT (would shift +1hr by July)
  • Boston: Wed 19:00:00 EST (would shift +1hr by July)
  • San Francisco:Wed 16:00:00 PST (would shift +1hr by July)
