Problem resolution

Kindle Cover Fixer is an application in development, so it may contain typos, errors or even bugs. If you find any, do not hesitate to tell me about it by opening a new issue in the repository, I will greatly appreciate it!

However, many times we can encounter problems that are not related to the application, the process of obtaining covers and sending them to Kindle, although it may seem like a simple task, it is not, it implies a certain order when it comes to maintaining our caliber library (at least until a future version in which we are able to control all possible variations)

Next, the most typical problems and how to solve them will be explained.

All buttons are gray

[FIND]

  • The application will enable the "Find books" button only when it detects that a Kindle device has been connected to the PC.
  • Connecting a Kindle device is an essential requirement for the application to work correctly.
  • Unplugging the device while the app is running may cause the process to fail.

[GENERATE]

  • This button will only be activated when the "[FIND]" process finishes.
  • If no book is found on Kindle, the button will NOT be activated.
  • If all the books found have problems, the button will not be activated
  • When you start this process, only covers of the books that are on the device and that do not have problems will be generated.

[TRANSFER]

  • This button will only be activated if covers have been generated.
  • The button will activate if it detects the Kindle connected to the PC.

In the table there are books in which the UUID does not appear

When you download books from the Internet, they are normally modified by a publisher that previously removes the DRM, this means that sometimes the UUID of the book is also removed.

It may also happen that it appears blank because a suitable format (.mobi or .azw3) is not found.

Caliber has the ability to fix these problems, but it does not do so automatically. To resolve it, follow the following steps on "UUID / FORMAT"

To always have the books correctly ordered, taking up less disk space and always ready to generate covers with Kindle Cover Fixer, the best way would be to have all the books in your Kindle library in the same format (.mobi or .azw3) and synchronize them to your Kindle once you have them this way.

New functionality is currently being developed in Kindle Cover Fixer to not depend on this manual process. It will be available in future versions.

Problems column

The application has a "Problems" column, which will display the 3 types of problems that make it impossible to generate a cover page. Below we explain how to solve each of them:

COVER

This problem means that the book does not have a cover. To fix it, follow these steps:

  • Search Google for the cover you want your book to have and download it.
  • Go to Caliber and right click on the book
  • Select the option "Modify metadata / Modify metadata separately"
  • In the new window, within the "Cover" section click on the "Explore" button.
  • Select the cover that you have previously downloaded.
  • Click "ok"
Once this is done, you can run Kindle Cover fixer again, this problem will not appear again in the book you fix.

UUID / FORMAT

  • Select the book without UUID in Caliber
  • Choose "Convert Books / Convert Separately".
  • Select a different format than the one the book currently has and convert it
  • Remove old book formatting
  • Convert the book to old format (if desired)
  • Delete the format you first converted it to
  • Send the book back to your Kindle
