The COMP 330 / 474 flagship implementation uses a two-cycle delivery model. The first five phase gates move student teams from project launch through an initial release. The sixth begins an operational enhancement cycle, reinforcing the broader ETIS principle that release changes the nature of engineering responsibility rather than ending it.

A semester cannot deeply cover every ETIS topic. The Educational Ecosystem therefore supports multiple instructional models and durations while preserving the underlying lifecycle, evidence, accountability, and engineering-judgment principles.

🧪 ETIS Engineering Education Suite

The ETIS Engineering Education Suite is a coordinated, phase-gate-aware set of educational capabilities designed around semester software engineering courses.

The suite is designed to work together, but adopting institutions may use one or more components according to their instructional model.

All three capabilities are phase-gate aware. Their expectations, evidence requirements, analysis, and review emphasis change according to the current gate and the engineering history established at prior gates.

ETIS Preflight

ETIS Preflight performs phase-specific readiness analysis before formal review.

It uses deterministic checks, analytical heuristics, structural analysis, and evidence expectations to determine whether expected repository evidence is present and has the basic shape required for the current phase gate.

Preflight does not grade student work, perform the formal engineering review, or make the phase-gate decision.

ETIS Engineering Studio

ETIS Engineering Studio is an instructor-operated learning environment for student engineering teams.

Students can create frozen evidence snapshots throughout a phase as their repository evolves. Team members work from the same snapshot while interacting independently with controlled engineering reviewers.

The reviewers inspect repository evidence, identify facts, surface gaps and risks, challenge assumptions, ask probing questions, conduct developmental mini-reviews, and guide students toward relevant ETIS Engineering Platform stages, Starter Kit materials, templates, and LMU / COICP examples.

The reviewers act as bounded mentors and challengers. They do not provide the engineering answer.

The student remains the engineer.

Engineering Studio is not a public self-service application. It is deployed and configured by an instructor or adopting institution for authorized courses, teams, students, and repositories.

ETIS Engineering Review Center

The ETIS Engineering Review Center is the instructor-facing formal phase-gate review environment.

At a formal gate, the designated Git tag establishes the evidence boundary. Controlled engineering reviewers analyze that evidence according to the current phase gate and produce rubric-aligned evidence, findings, confidence assessments, summaries, and traceable lineage back to repository artifacts.

The Review Center supports instructor judgment; it does not replace it.

Developmental Studio review and formal phase-gate review remain intentionally separate. Studio conversations do not silently become evidence in the formal review. The evidence submitted at the designated phase-gate tag must stand on its own.

The Review Center implementation may remain private where disclosure of protected review or assessment logic would weaken assessment integrity.

Repository Model

The ETIS organization intentionally maintains both public and private repositories.

Public Repositories

Public repositories contain materials intended for broad use, adoption, learning, implementation, or community participation. These include:

  • the ETIS Framework and public website source;
  • the ETIS Engineering Platform Starter Kit;
  • educational and course repository starter kits;
  • ETIS Preflight reference implementations;
  • the ETIS Engineering Studio source repository;
  • student-facing engineering tools;
  • documentation and implementation resources;
  • organization and community resources; and
  • other reusable assets intended for public adoption.

Public repositories support transparency, reproducibility, learning, professional reuse, and continued evolution of the ETIS ecosystem.

Private Repositories

Certain repositories remain private when they contain:

  • instructor-only formal assessment systems;
  • protected reviewer or evaluation logic;
  • Engineering Review Center implementation components;
  • assessment-integrity controls;
  • restricted educational tooling; or
  • other assets whose disclosure would compromise legitimate educational, operational, or governance objectives.

Where appropriate, public documentation, student-facing tooling, open-source application components, packaged releases, or other consumable assets may be provided without publishing protected assessment internals.

This repository model supports openness where openness improves engineering practice while preserving appropriate boundaries where integrity requires them.
