types of organizations:

  1. pathological: power oriented
  2. bureaucratic: rules oriented
  3. generative: performance oriented

culture exists on three levels:

  1. assumptions: least visible. stuff we "just know." difficult to talk about.

  2. values: visible. possible of being discussed and debated. capable of framing relationships, events, activities.

  3. artifacts: most visible. written mission statements, vision statements, etc.
